The Fisheries Coastal Structures Data Architecture Development Roadmap and Governance Model R&D Project Concludes with a Closing Meeting

The project, launched in December 2022 through the collaboration of TÜBİTAK TÜSSİDE and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry's General Directorate of Fisheries and Aquaculture, was completed with a closing meeting held in Ankara. Within the scope of the project, the current status of 400 coastal structures was analyzed, classification and capacity assessments were conducted, and a governance model along with a development roadmap was established. 

The meeting was attended by Turgay Türkyılmaz, General Director of Fisheries and Aquaculture, and Ali Doğan, Director of TÜBİTAK TÜSSİDE, as well as general directors and department heads from the Presidency of Strategy and Budget, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, the Ministry of Interior, and the Ministry of Treasury and Finance. Additionally, Provincial Directors of Agriculture from 32 provinces and representatives from various cooperatives participated.

Through this project, the following key outcomes were achieved:

  • A detailed assessment of the current status of 400 fisheries coastal structures,
  • Decision models for classifying coastal structures and determining fish landing points,
  • Capacity analysis and recommendations for addressing coastal infrastructure needs,
  • A foundational data inventory and data architecture for the coastal structure resource management software,
  • Proposals for operational and governance models,
  • Prioritization models and recommendations based on identified needs,
  • A fisheries coastal structures development roadmap and action plan.
