"2016 Cryptology Summer School for University Students" organized by TÜBİTAK BİLGEM National Electronics and Cryptology Research Institute (UEKAE) between 22-26 August 2016 has been completed. The summer school event held at TÜBİTAK TÜSSİDE attracted great attention and 30 successful candidates attended the training.

Students participating from the Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering and Mathematics departments of universities were trained in three basic branches of cryptology. Within the scope of the first of these, "History of Cryptology", the birth and historical development of the science of Cryptology was explained. However, young people were introduced to the Enigma encryption device used in World War II, which influenced the course of the war. Within the framework of another training, "Cryptographic Basic Building Blocks and Analysis Techniques", starting from basic encryption techniques, string and block ciphers used today, hash functions, public key encryption methods and cryptographic protocols, which are the heart of secure communication systems, were explained. In the third part of the training, secure software development methods, examples from modern application areas of cryptology, and predictions about the near future were discussed. In addition, quantum cryptography technology, which will lead to major changes all over the world if realized, was also examined under a separate heading. Additionally, secure communication systems, wireless networks and their types, security standards, TEMPEST, electromagnetic antenna and radar systems were introduced.

In addition to being educational, the summer school also enabled young people to have an enjoyable time. With the "Treasure Hunt" game, students were divided into groups and asked to decipher the encrypted messages given to them. In addition, designated groups worked intensively outside the training period and designed new and original Crypto Algorithms in the "My First Algorithm Project Presentations". On the last day of the training, groups presented their designs, while other groups tried to break these designed crypto algorithms. In addition, a Science Talk was held in the evenings for a week, and talks were held about robotics, embedded systems, Arduino and cyber security.

University students, who received certificates of participation at the closing ceremony, completed their one-week cryptology training.
