GBS (Entrepreneur Information System) provides policy makers, decision makers, experts and researchers in public institutions and organizations, universities, research institutes and non-governmental organizations with an environment where accurate, reliable and relevant data/information at macro and micro levels will be provided for the design, implementation and effectiveness measurement of economic, sectoral and regional policies.
The Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology, while creating the GBS database, used the "Industrial Registry Database" The data obtained from the Ministry of Customs and Trade, Revenue Administration, Social Security Institution, TUBITAK, Turkish Patent Institute, KOSGEB and TUIK were included in the system. GBS is designed in an expandable and flexible structure, allowing the integration of new data sets from different institutions.
Thanks to inter-institutional data integration, new data sets such as financial statements of approximately 3 million enterprises generating commercial earnings in the economy, trade across sectors and provinces, and provincial data on the production of goods and services can be accessed. In addition, data sets belonging to different institutions can be reported through cross-queries in the EIS. For example, data such as the employment, profit/loss status of exporting firms or the financial performance of patenting firms can be accessed.
Reports deemed appropriate for publication by the Ministry are shared with the public on the GBS website. In addition, researchers from universities and other higher education institutions, institutes and other organizations established for research purposes, professional chambers/organizations, non-governmental organizations, and international institutions and organizations of which Turkey is a member will be able to request aggregated data that do not include company-based data as of 2015.
In the sharing of GBS data, the confidentiality principles specified in the Turkish Statistics Law No. 5429 are observed regarding the confidentiality of data belonging to private and legal persons.
