The report of the "National Cancer Policies Workshop", which was held in Green Park Hotel Istanbul between 27-28 June 2014, under the leadership of the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA) and with the support of TÜSSİDE, was published on 5 January 2015.
More than 200 doctors, nurses, researchers, technology manufacturers and politicians attended the two-day meeting. 15 simultaneous workshop sessions on 15 cancer subheadings determined by TÜBA were held with qualitative data collection techniques in which TÜSSİDE is an expert. Before the workshop, TÜSSİDE provided moderation training to professors who are experts on cancer, and moderation support was provided during the workshop.
In his speech, Necdet ÜNÜVAR, Chairman of the Health, Family, Labor and Social Affairs Commission of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, expressed his support and determination for the implementation of the policy development recommendations obtained from the workshop next year.

Information Note: Cancer is defined as the uncontrolled and abnormal growth and proliferation of cells in one or more parts of the body. Cancer rates are increasing in Turkey, as in the world. In Turkey, 162,000 new cancer cases occur every year and 140,000 people die due to cancer. According to Globocan 2012 data, the rate of cancer in men and women is 245.7 and 157.50 per 100,000 people, respectively.
