TÜBİTAK TÜSSİDE Health Economics and Management Unit held the opening meeting of the transformation project of Private Sani Konukoğlu Hospital into a Training and Research Hospital within Sanko University in Gaziantep.

The opening meeting, in which TÜSSİDE Chief Experts Kirstin Öztürk and Barış Çarıkçı made presentations, was attended by the executives of Private Sani Konukoğlu Hospital and Sanko University Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Sınav. In his opening speech, Prof. Dr. Sınav said, "Our hospital has done many successful works so far. However, with Sanko University becoming a Medical University, it needs to reach the standard of a hospital that provides education and research as well as quality health services. With this project, we will determine what we need as a training and research hospital, what the relevant standards are and how to proceed. TÜSSİDE, one of TÜBİTAK Institutes, will draw a scientific road map for us to reach these standards."

Within the scope of the project, TÜSSİDE will conduct analyses with all units in the hospital and university using methods such as workshops, change management surveys and field analysis, and will develop recommendations for becoming a university hospital at international standards.

Information note:

One of the main reasons for the recent interruption of health services in our country is the insufficient human resource capacity. New regulations have been made by health authorities to solve this problem and the opening of health-oriented universities has been encouraged. Many hospital groups have taken advantage of these incentives to establish health-oriented universities to train their own human resources and to complement their practices, which are an important part of health education, through private hospital affiliation or transfer. Whatever the preferred method of affiliation or transfer, the important thing is to manage this change process correctly. While the focus of private hospitals is to provide healthcare services, university hospitals, unlike private hospitals, have many services and missions in addition to healthcare services, such as medical education, post-graduate specialization training, subspecialty training, conducting research and academic studies, and the obligation to be a reference healthcare institution. For this reason, the more accurately education and research activities are linked to existing operations in this transition process, the less the pains in the transition process will be. TUBITAK TUSSIDE Health Economics and Management Unit provides consultancy services to the sector in the transition process from private hospital to university hospital and provides services to the sector in reorganizing the institutional structure according to international standards and the needs of the university hospital.
