The High-Level Panel of Experts announced by United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon convened at TÜBİTAK TÜSSİDE on February 16-17, 2015 for the establishment of a Technology Bank for Least Developed Countries.
Gyan Chandra Acharya, United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Least Developed Countries Officer, chairs this first meeting of the panel, which includes representatives from Least Developed Countries as well as other countries such as Turkey, the United States, Denmark and China.
The second meeting of the panel, which came together to discuss issues such as the mandate and organizational structure of the Technology Bank, will be held in Istanbul in July, and includes the former prime minister of Haiti and the former Minister of Education and Science of Rwanda.
President Erdoğan had announced
The "IV United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDCs)" was held in Istanbul on May 9-13, 2011. At the meeting, President Recep Tayyip ERDOĞAN announced a commitment package for LDCs during his term as Prime Minister. One of the commitments in the fields of science and technology in this package was the establishment of an international center to act as a "Technology Bank" for LDCs.
