Mr. Fikri IŞIK, Minister of Science, Industry and Technology Fikri IŞIK, Minister of Science, Industry and Technology, announced that the United Nations "High-Level Panel of Experts" has approved the recommendation to establish the United Nations Technology Bank for Least Developed Countries in Turkey.
Speaking about the efforts made by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for the establishment of the Bank, Minister Işık said that the "High Level Panel of Experts" appointed by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-mun on November 26, 2014 was charged with the responsibility of conducting a feasibility study on the Technology Bank initiative.
Approved to be established in Turkey
Mr. Fikri Işık Fikri Işık stated that the work of the "High Level Panel of Experts" chaired by Prof. Dr. Romain Murenzi, Director of the World Academy of Sciences, has been completed and said, "I would like to express with great pleasure that with the report prepared by the High Level Panel, the 'Recommendation for the establishment and implementation of the United Nations Technology Bank Central Bureau for the Least Developed Countries in Turkey' has been approved. This decision will be presented to Ban Ki-mun in the coming days." Mr. Mr. Fikri Işık emphasized that the approval of the functionality and suitability of such a bank and the acceptance of Turkey as the host country with the consensus of all members is very pleasing for them and said, "Our country, which is almost at the same distance from the USA and Japan, which have a large part of the knowledge and technology accumulation that the Least Developed Countries will need, has a truly strategic position."
'It will facilitate researchers'
Mr. Fikri Mr. Fikri Işık mentioned the activities of the bank and stated that even if the Least Developed Countries want to produce many basic products and basic technologies, they may face high intellectual property and patent costs, and that one of the main priorities of the bank will be to offer patents and intellectual property rights owned by developed countries to the Least Developed Countries under favorable conditions. Mr. Fikri Işık stated that the second dimension of the Bank's activities will be to increase the science, technology and innovation capacity of the Least Developed Countries. Mr. Fikri Işık stated that efforts will be made to enable researchers in these countries to access academic networks and international publications faster and more easily.
To be realized at TÜBİTAK TÜSSİDE
Mr. Fikri Mr. Fikri Işık informed that the Technology Bank is planned to be established within TÜBİTAK TÜSSİDE and that the synergy that will be created by combining the capabilities of TÜBİTAK and its institutes with the opportunities offered by the Informatics Valley will add strength to the bank.
In this context, Mr. Fikri Işık stated that TUBITAK has started to work seriously on designing support programs for 48 countries. Fikri Işık said that they will employ the qualified and young human resources of the country within the bank.
