The work in the project started with the current situation analysis and aimed to take a picture of the current situation of national and international scientific studies in polar sciences and to examine scientific research trends. In this context;

  • A literature review was conducted,
  • Scientific studies of 12 countries and 9 international science platforms/organizations were examined,
  • One-to-one interviews were conducted with 15 participants from abroad and 47 from Turkey,
  • Two workshops were organized in Turkey, one of which was online.

In line with recommendations from the ecosystem and literature research;

  • Vision, mission and values statements were developed.
  • Three main strategic goals, seven policies, 34 action proposals and target proposals have been developed to cover the national polar science ecosystem.
  • In order to promote interdisciplinary studies in polar sciences, separate research themes have been identified for the Arctic and Antarctic Regions.

The presentation prepared by the TÜBİTAK TÜSSİDE project team on the scope of the National Polar Science Strategy (2023-2035) document was made by the project coordinator Seda Celep on the first day of the 6th National Polar Science Workshop (November 30, 2022) and shared with the ecosystem.
