The closing meeting of the "Project for the Study of Safe Shelters and Mooring Systems on Our Coasts" conducted jointly by the Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications, General Directorate of Shipyards and Coastal Structures and TÜBİTAK TÜSSİDE was held in Ankara on January 28, 2016 with the participation of TÜSSİDE Institute Director Tezer Battal and General Director of Shipyards and Coastal Structures Hızırreis Deniz.
The project was implemented with the aim of more effective use of our country's coasts, ensuring navigational safety and maritime security, promoting maritime culture, developing amateur seamanship, managing waste and preventing damage to the seabed by throwing anchors. With the project, safe shelter and mooring locations were analyzed in areas where boat activity is concentrated on the Turkish coast, and alternative locations and suitable shelter and mooring systems for these locations were studied.
Within the scope of the project, meetings were held with expert teams consisting of the Ministry, maritime sector representatives and academicians; field studies, domestic/overseas technical inspection visits and workshops were carried out. In line with the analysis of the obtained data and opinions, sheltering and mooring points were identified on our coasts and suitable mooring systems were proposed for these points.
At the closing meeting, the activities carried out within the scope of the project, the results obtained and the strategies developed were presented to the participants.
The shelter and mooring points and system recommendations determined within the scope of the project will be used by the Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications in the development of regulations, plans and policies regarding the use of our coasts in the coming period.
