In order to reduce the effects of wastewater of different qualities and quantities originating from healthcare institutions in our country on water resources, TÜBİTAK Environment and Cleaner Production Institute and The project "Assessment of Current Wastewater Disposal Practices and Wastewater Management of Hospitals in Our Country in Terms of Patient and Occupational Safety" was initiated in cooperation with TÜBİTAK Turkey Industrial Management Institute (TÜSSİDE).

Within the scope of the project, a Common Mind Platform® (OAP) was held on March 8, 2016, under the moderation of TÜBİTAK TÜSSİDE Health Economics and Management (SEY) unit, to determine the biological risk parameters that may be present in hospital wastewater and to analyze the current situation regarding the disposal of wastewater. Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, General Directorate of Health Services of the Ministry of Health, public health, clinical microbiology and infection experts from different hospitals operating in our country participated in the workshop.

In the first stage of the workshop, the negative aspects of the current situation regarding the disposal of wastewater originating from healthcare institutions were evaluated, and in the second stage, the biological risk parameters that may be found in hospital wastewater were predicted and prioritized, the risk comparison of hospital wastewater and domestic wastewater in terms of biological parameters was made, monitoring parameters were determined and recommendations were developed.
