The High Level Expert Panel announced by United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon convened at TÜBİTAK TÜSSİDE on 16-17 February 2015 for the Technology Bank planned to be established for the Least Developed Countries.
This first meeting of the panel, which includes representatives from the Least Developed Countries as well as other countries such as Turkey, the USA, Denmark and China, is chaired by Gyan Chandra Acharya, United Nations Deputy Secretary-General and Least Developed Countries Officer.
The second meeting of the panel, which came together to discuss issues such as the duties and organizational structure of the Technology Bank and includes names such as the former Prime Minister of Haiti and the former Minister of Education and Science of Rwanda, will be held in Istanbul in July.
President Erdoğan Announced
“IV. The "United Nations Conference on Least Developed Countries (LDCs)" was held in Istanbul on 9-13 May 2011. At the meeting, President Recep Tayyip ERDOĞAN announced a commitment package for LDCs during his term as Prime Minister. In this package, one of the commitments regarding the fields of science and technology was the establishment of an international center that would play the role of "Technology Bank" for LDCs.
