Memorandum of Understanding Signing Ceremony for the "Engine Center of Excellence" to be established within the TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center Energy Institute by the Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology; It was held at TÜBİTAK TÜSSİDE on 20 October 2015, with the honor of the Minister of Science, Industry and Technology, Mr. Fikri Işık.

“Engine Center of Excellence” aims to create domestic producers of trucks, tractors and agricultural machinery, generators, construction equipment and range extender engines in our country. In this context, infrastructures for the development of internal combustion engine dynamometers and emission measurement systems, vehicle drive system dynamometers, injector and pump test systems, test devices for exhaust treatment systems and electronic control units will be established within the TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center Energy Institute.

Minister of Science, Industry and Technology Fikri Işık made the following statements: “We will sign a very important protocol today. We will implement an Engine Center of Excellence. Here, perhaps for the first time in Turkey, we will implement an important protocol that will be signed by 15 industrialists and 4 public institutions. We will not only stop there, we will gather all of Turkey's engine-related experience here. Today, we have begun to rise to the position of a country that has achieved firsts in the world. Engine Center of Excellence is a work that includes first design, then prototype production and testing center. We will make a serious investment here and we do not want to burden the private sector. As the state, we will cover the initial installation cost, and we will share in the subsequent costs.

Our 15 industrial organizations will carry out all research within the program and the accumulated knowledge will be shared. It will turn into economic benefit and social benefit for Türkiye. I believe that a country that imports 3.5 billion dollars will commercialize the results of this center of excellence and perhaps become a country that exports over 10 billion dollars. This is our goal, we have the infrastructure for this, we have the human resources we need, if necessary, we purchase services and work with the most professional companies in this field. We own all property rights in every aspect, we produce engines, we use them in our own domestic cars, we meet the needs of our tractors, and we become a country that has a say in engine technology in the world.

In this project, we truly want to demonstrate public, university and industry cooperation that will set an example for Turkey. Universities in Turkey have a serious background. We have many industrialists with practical intelligence in the industry. "Turkey will realize a center of excellence, which it should have realized in the 1960s, within a certain period of time, in the coming days."
