With the protocol signed by the Ministry of Industry and Technology, Ministry of Environment and Urbanization and Esenler Municipality, the first smart city project to be built from scratch in Turkey was launched in Esenler, Istanbul. In Esenler, where more than fifty thousand independent units are targeted to be built on an area of approximately 8.5 million square meters, a total of 10 focus areas and 106 smart city solutions are being evaluated, mainly in the focus areas of energy, environment, health, security and transportation. TÜSSİDE plays a role as a solution partner in this evaluation within the scope of creating feasibilities and road maps.

TÜSSİDE continues its evaluations for the region, which will function as a living test laboratory with Turkey's smart city vision, first for the region and then for Turkey as a whole. Within the scope of the study, the economic, social and environmental analysis of the smart city is presented. In addition, the current situation in Turkey regarding the technologies proposed within the scope of feasibility studies is presented and their possible impacts on the industry are evaluated.

The project aims to establish a Technology Development Zone specialized in smart cities in order to ensure the sustainability of the technologies to be produced within the smart city. It is aimed that the Technology Development Zone will be fed by the data and technologies to be produced within the scope of the city, and that the experience here will be commercialized and application developers will emerge on a global scale. In this context, TÜSSİDE plays a role as a stakeholder in the creation of the IoT platform and its governance model.
