The Closing Meeting of the Project on the Study of Safe Shelters and Mooring Systems on Our Coasts was Held in Ankara

The closing meeting of the "Survey of Safe Shelters and Mooring Systems on Our Coasts Project" carried out jointly by the Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications, General Directorate of Shipyards and Coastal Structures and TÜBİTAK TÜSSİDE, with the participation of TÜSSİDE Institute Director Tezer Battal and General Manager of Shipyards and Coastal Structures Hızırreis Deniz. It was held in Ankara on January 28, 2016.

The project was implemented with the aim of using our country's coasts more effectively, ensuring navigational safety and maritime security, disseminating maritime culture, developing amateur maritime, managing waste and preventing damage to the seabed by dropping anchors. With the project, safe shelter and mooring places were analyzed in areas where boat activity is concentrated on the Turkish coast, and alternative locations and suitable shelter and mooring systems for these locations were studied.

Within the scope of the project, meetings were held with expert teams consisting of the Ministry, maritime sector representatives and academicians; Field studies, domestic/international technical inspection visits and workshops were carried out. In line with the analysis and opinions of the data obtained, sheltering and mooring points were determined on our coasts and mooring systems suitable for these points were recommended.

At the closing meeting, the activities carried out within the scope of the project, the results obtained and the strategies created were explained to the participants.

The sheltering and mooring points and system recommendations determined within the scope of the project will be used by the Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications in the development of regulations, plans and policies regarding the use of our coasts in the coming period.
